Information written by company
Web Drive was a prominent New Zealand-based web hosting company established in 1997 by five founders. Over its operational years, it grew significantly, becoming one of New Zealand's largest domain registrars and longest-established web hosts, managing over 100,000 domains for more than 25,000 customers at its peak. The company initially offered a range of services including shared Linux and Windows hosting, reseller hosting, domain registration, SSL certificates, cloud servers (launched in 2013), and dedicated servers, primarily targeting individuals and businesses within New Zealand. Their infrastructure included a main data center in Auckland housing over 1,000 servers. Web Drive was known for being the first New Zealand-based company to gain ICANN accreditation in 2011. In 2014, Web Drive was acquired by Digiweb Holdings Limited (later Umbrellar) and eventually merged with its sister company, Openhost (also owned by Freeparking Group, which seems related to Digiweb/Umbrellar). While the Web Drive brand is now part of Openhost, the original company played a significant role in the NZ hosting market for 17 years before its acquisition.
