Verio Inc., founded in 1996 in Denver, Colorado, established itself as a prominent web hosting and internet services provider. It grew rapidly by acquiring and consolidating over 200 smaller Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and web hosting companies across the US and Europe, becoming known for its comprehensive offerings targeting small to medium-sized businesses (SMBs). In 2000, Verio was acquired by the Japanese telecommunications giant Nippon Telegraph and Telephone (NTT) Communications for approximately $5.5 billion, continuing operations as a wholly-owned subsidiary. Its core services historically included shared hosting (Linux and Windows), VPS hosting, dedicated servers, domain registration, email hosting, e-commerce solutions, and website building tools. Over time, Verio's business structure evolved; its backbone and some dedicated hosting centers were moved to NTT America in 2005, and its European arm became NTT Europe Online in 2006. In 2015, the Verio Shared SMB hosting division was sold to Endurance International Group (now Newfold Digital), which continues to operate services under the Verio brand name. Some sources indicate that Verio is no longer accepting new signups directly, directing users potentially towards other Endurance/Newfold brands, while still supporting existing customers.
