Highwinds Network Group, Inc. (commonly known as Highwinds) was founded in 2002 and established itself as a major global Content Delivery Network (CDN) provider. Headquartered originally in Winter Park, Florida, the company specialized in delivering large media files, game downloads, software distributions, and streaming video content for major enterprises in the media, entertainment, gaming, and advertising sectors. Highwinds built a reputation for high performance, reliability, and a robust global network infrastructure, often referred to as the RollingThunder network. Their services included CDN, IP transit, and colocation. They were known for providing significant bandwidth capacity and focusing on optimizing content delivery speeds worldwide. Highwinds aimed to provide scalable and cost-effective solutions for businesses requiring efficient distribution of digital assets to end-users globally. In February 2017, Highwinds was acquired by StackPath, a security-as-a-service platform, integrating Highwinds' CDN capabilities into StackPath's broader edge computing and edge security offerings. The Highwinds brand was gradually phased out following the acquisition. Subsequently, in 2023, Akamai Technologies acquired substantially all assets of StackPath, including the technology portfolio that originated from Highwinds.
