Information written by company
Fortlax, founded in 2004 by Anders Berglund Hansius and Mats Hjorth, was a leading Swedish data center company specializing in highly secure and sustainable hosting solutions. Headquartered in Piteå, northern Sweden, the company operated three data centers renowned for their physical security (including bulletproof walls), redundancy in power and cooling, and protection against electromagnetic pulses (EMP). Fortlax targeted mid-size enterprises and organizations needing robust business continuity, offering services like colocation, cloud services (including virtual data centers - vDC), online backup, and disaster recovery planning. A key unique selling point was its commitment to sustainability, utilizing 100% renewable energy from hydropower and wind power, leveraging the cold climate near the Arctic Circle for efficient cooling. In June 2019, Fortlax merged with EcoDataCenter through an acquisition, aiming to strengthen their combined position in the Nordic data center market and leverage EcoDataCenter's financial backing for further growth. While the Fortlax brand officially ceased to exist in October 2020, its facilities and expertise became part of EcoDataCenter's portfolio, particularly noted for hosting High-Performance Computing (HPC) clients like the BMW Group.
